Building trust

Small children rely on the people in their surroundings to survive. They need to be fed, kept warm but away from heat, have their diapers changed, be washed/cleaned, be talked to, caressed and loved. If these needs are fulfilled they’ll develop a basic sense of trust for the people who care for them. This trust has to be dealt with carefully on the adult’s side as children will continue to trust them, often even if they suffer from negative experiences (e.g. abuse). When children grow older it needs a continuous investment of time, care and love to keep this trusted relationship alive as it will be challenged by new experiences on both sides.
