Measures to build trust: negotiating

Ιf you have the feeling that your child is really overdoing it, being on a device all the time, you might need to limit screen time in some way. In this case it would be good to start negotiating the time and space when and where devices can be used and when and where not. This will be easier to implement if you can get your child to make suggestions himself/herself as this will give him/her more ownership about his/her time. If you reach an agreement you might want to write that down. Here you can find an example of a possible contract between you and your child: https://www.commonsensemedia.org/sites/default/files/uploads/pdfs/common_sense_family_media_agreement.pdf

but you can also refer to the chapter on Family media management in the Parents' Guide to Media Literacy.
